MWCEC members/carers over two weekends took part in wildlife training presented by Dr Robyn Stenner. The workshops were aimed at Macropods, Possum/Gliders, Birds and First aid.
Dr Robyn Stenner BVSc (Hon II) MANZCVS (Wildlife Medicine), has spent over 10 years working in hospitals dedicated to the treatment of our Australian wildlife. Robyn has developed several courses aimed at helping wildlife carers manage some of the more complex cases which come into care; with the aim to give these animals a better chance of survival prior to, or during veterinary treatment, as well as helping deepen the understanding carers have of what is wrong and what they can do with these animals.
The species-specific workshops touched on the basic identification and key points of the species group, before moving into a more in depth look at husbandry, health assessments, disease and trauma management. The first aid course covered some basic understanding around pain, shock, trauma and disease, as well as key tips for increasing positive outcomes in critical patients.
A special thanks to Rex Airlines and Santos who provided sponsorship for both weekends. Thank you to Robyn also for travelling to Roma for the training.
