ABOUT US

We provide a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation programme

What we do

The Maranoa Wildlife Caring and Education Centre (MWCEC) was established with the purpose of enhancing the natural environment by providing a rescue and rehabilitation programme for orphaned or injured native animals, including:

  • Mammals such as possums, kangaroos, wallabies, bats, wombats, echidnas and koalas
  • Birds such as cockatoos, lorikeets, kookaburras, owls, ducks, raptors and frogmouths
  • Reptiles such as skinks, geckoes, turtles and snakes
  • Amphibians such as frogs and tadpoles

The purpose of a wildlife carer’s work is to raise or rehabilitate orphaned or injured native wildlife so that they may be returned to the wild and live the natural life that was intended for them.

Our native wildlife are not pets; they simply need love and care to help them on their way.

Our aim and our purpose

Our organisation aims to be resourceful, and our purpose also extends to:

 Information and Resource Sharing

  • Sourcing and providing training for volunteer wildlife carers.
  • Sourcing and lending equipment (eg. scales, incubators, enclosures) and other essentials (eg. feeding products) to assist volunteer wildlife carers.
  • Promoting native wildlife and ecosystems in the local community through events such as field days, tours, school talks and spotlighting walks.
  • Making information available to the community about the rescue, care, protection, rehabilitation and release of native wildlife.

Knowledge and Biodiversity Improvements

  • Researching and improving knowledge of natural ecosystems and biodiversity hotspots.
  • Researching the biology and ecology of rare and threatened species and other significant native wildlife.
  • Participating in native habitat restoration projects including removal of weeds and enhancement of native fauna habitat.
  • Promoting biodiversity through re-introducing native plants and animals to areas in which they are no longer found or are no longer abundant.

The Maranoa Wildlife Caring & Education Centre was founded in 2000 by Craig and Meryl Eddie, through BOOBOOK Ecological Consulting based in Roma, Queensland.
